In class we were were asked to work in pairs to make notes about this image using the following questions What is happening in this photograph?
1.A man is walking through what seems to be a laundrette. 2.Washing Machines 3.It could of been taken in a washing machine. 4.It could of been apart of the effect or in the washing machine. 5.Because if the black and white is an effect, the light might of not been near the edges the light was directed onto the man so it was darker on the edges. 6.The camera or man could of been moving 7.With a pinhole camera 8.I would ask the photographer what inspired him to make this picture 9.I would name this picture goodbye,because its blurry it looks like the man is disappering. |
Steven pippin, was born in 1960 at redhill, surrey. He is an
english artist who works with converted or improvised photographic equipment. Steven takes an interest in the mechanical which has been going on since childhood memories of seeing his father with tubes and wires surrounding the television his father was making. Pippin got the Turner Prize at the Tate Gallery in London. His entry was based on the work 'Laundromat Locomotion' which he converted into 12 rows of washing machines in a laundromat which Steven turned into a pinhole camera. Some of his recent work also includes Kinetic sculptures, they are sculptures in which movement is perceivable by the viewer. |
